long Ago New Years

Dear Carol, Mike and Alison,
Do you remember the four wet kayakers who first-footed at your door in the early hours of one long ago New Year's Day?
Dag, Liz, Mark and I had paddled to Snake Island to see in the new year. We didn't linger there much after midnight. There is not a lot to do on Snake Island in the dark on Jan. 01. Paddling back  to Protection, we saw lights at your cabin. I can't remember what time it was, but it must have been at least 1am, or later, when we stumbled up the beach and onto your deck. I'll always remember how you welcomed us. With glee. With grace. With a few of those lovely Mike glares.   And one more g word that keeps cropping up –with generosity. As always in your house, wine flowed, food was shared, there was lots of laughter and smart, funny conversation.
It was a fabulous way to see in a new year.
You are a fabulous family.
Much love, Maria xxx

Gee - You folks must have done that another time too, when Alison, Alex, Pete and I were there celebrating New years Eve! You had been on Snake Island, we had just finished setting alight and afloat our peices of paper made into boats - filled with the things from the previous year we wanted to let go of. Alison's great idea - very cool. At any rate - we welcomed you all in also. As I recall - Alison and I were wearing old hats and fur stoles? So much fun. B.K. - of course. (Before Kids) Much imbibing ensued. xo Deb
